Lottie Frances McClellan, the first child of Elijah Shanklin and Beedie Frances(Archer) McClellan, was born in Ellis County, Texas on November 26, 1900. The young McClellan couple had married on December 3, 1899 and made their home on a farm in the vicinity of Ovilla, one of the oldest communities in Ellis County, Texas, and near the settlement of Barker, which had a post office established in 1877, often called “the Charles Barker post office,” because it was located on the Charles Barker farm. The post office name was changed from Barker to Midlothian by May, 1882, when citizens of the area had petitioned Washington for the name change.
