In the book “A History of Coleman County and Its People”, compiled by the Coleman County Historical Commission, 1985, four families with the name McClellan moved into Coleman County, Texas between the years of 1890 and 1913. These McClellan families were: the W.R. McClellan family, around 1890, the James Edward McClellan family in 1891, the Elijah Shanklin McClellan family in 1904, and the Robert Washington McClellan family in 1913. This record does not report that all of these families were “kin folk.” The only two families that are reported to be “kin folk” are Elijah Shanklin and Robert Washington McClellan. They are reported as “brothers.”
